Join us for a live webinar to explore the capabilities of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software for modeling corrosion and predicting the long-term growth of corrosion pits.

In this webinar, you will get an introduction to the Corrosion Module, an add-on to the COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software that offers specialized functionality for modeling corrosion processes. Additionally, Dr. Sunil Kumar Thamida of Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati will discuss his work on simulating uniform corrosion as a moving boundary problem. This session will showcase how to simulate corrosion in both two- and three-dimensional structures, including the implementation of lattice models of alloy structures.

You will also see simulation examples of large structures such as ships, submarines, and offshore structures immersed in salt water. Finally, Dr. Thamida will discuss the simulation of the corrosion rate and deep pit formation in metal alloys by incorporating macroscopic properties correlated to microstructures.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Thamida Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati

Dr. Sunil Kumar Thamida is currently a professor and head of the department of chemical engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati. He received his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, USA, his master's degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, and his bachelor's degree in technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Thamida has five years of industrial research and development experience at Unilever and General Motors and more than 15 years of teaching and research experience. He has authored a book titled Transport Phenomena: Chemical Processes and published more than 25 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. He also received the M P Chary Memorial Medal Award from the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE).
