Virtual MRI Safety Evaluations for Patients with Implanted Medical Devices
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) safety evaluations provide important information to patients and physicians regarding the potential hazards of implanted medical devices in the MRI environment. MED Institute helps medical device manufacturers evaluate their devices for safety in the MRI environment using computational modeling and simulation as well as physical testing for magnetically induced displacement force, magnetically induced torque, MR image artifact, and RF-induced heating. After the simulation and testing are complete, MED interprets the results for MRI safety, labeling and supporting the scientific rationale that is reported in the instructions for use (IFU) of the medical device.
We will give an overview of using the CFD Module for laminar, turbulent, non-Newtonian, and multiphase flows as well as flow in mixers. We will discuss conjugate heat transfer with the combination of heat transfer in solids and heat transfer in fluids, including thermal radiation effects. These phenomena could also be coupled with structural mechanics, chemical reactions, and particle tracing.
