Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics® for New Users

This introductory demonstration will show you the fundamental workflow of the COMSOL Multiphysics® modeling environment.

In this minicourse, we will cover all of the key modeling steps, including geometry creation, setting up the physics, meshing, solving, and postprocessing.

COMSOL Multiphysics® for Experienced Users & News in Version 5.4

In this minicourse, current users of COMSOL Multiphysics® can experience how to get even more out of the software. Our focus will be on best practices together with tips & tricks in all of the modeling steps.

You will also get up to speed with all of the new features in the latest version of COMSOL Multiphysics®, version 5.4.

CFD and Heat Transfer Minicourse

During this minicourse, we will walk you through an example of modeling fluid flow and give a quick overview of using the CFD Module for laminar, turbulent, and high Mach number flow; non-Newtonian, multiphase, and nonisothermal flows; and flow in mixers. You will also learn how to accurately model the thermal characteristics of systems that include heat transfer by conduction, convection, and radiation. In addition, we will discuss how you can model and optimize systems that include phase change, bioheating, electronic cooling, thermally induced stresses, and thin thermal barriers.

Advanced Materials Minicourse

In all areas, the materials used tend to become "intelligent", making it possible to obtain more efficient products. Shape memory alloys, composites, metamaterials, and piezomaterials are just a few examples. We will see how to implement these materials in COMSOL Multiphysics® models.

Learn about the capabilities of the RF Module, Wave Optics Module, and Ray Optics Module for modeling Maxwell's equations in the high-frequency regime. Use cases include the modeling of radio waves, microwaves, and terahertz-wave and light propagation.

Acoustics and Vibrations Minicourse

Get an introduction to the capabilities of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software for modeling the interactions between acoustic waves and structural vibrations, including some tips and tricks for improving both model accuracy and runtime, and learn about advanced postprocessing for acoustic waves.

Sven Friedel
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH
Sven Friedel established the COMSOL branch office in Switzerland in 2004. He received his PhD in physics from the University of Leipzig in the field of inverse electromagnetic problems. There, he also taught lectures in geomagnetism and volcanology before joining the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering at ETH Zürich as a postdoctoral researcher.
Thierry Luthy
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH
Thierry Luthy joined COMSOL in 2006 and currently works as a technical sales manager. He studied physics at the University of Neuchâtel. After his diploma, he worked at the EMPA Dübendorf for two years. Thierry received his PhD in the field of composite materials from the ETH Zürich.
Zoran Vidakovic
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH
Zoran Vidakovic joined the Swiss COMSOL office in 2010. He received his MS degree in mechanical engineering from ETH Zürich. At the Laboratory for Energy Conversion, he specialized in turbomachinery, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. His industrial internship was completed in the R&D department of MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG.
