Edge periodic boundary condition on surface

I'm modeling reactive transport within a 3D surface, and I want to implement periodic boundary conditions at the edges. I did not find any "pre-implemented" edge periodic conditions in the Surface Reactions module nor in the Boundary PDE interfaces.
Does anyone know the best way to do that?
The best trick I found was to define general extrusion operators to set the concentration of one edge equal to its corresponding other, but I doubt this is the best way.
