Sound Transmission Loss Through a Window

This model presents a practical and efficient method to compute the sound transmission loss (STL) through a building component. Specifically, this example treats the case of a double-glazed window.

The method used here is valid for structural components that have a small influence on the acoustic field on the source side (STL larger than 10 dB). The method is based on assuming an ideal diffuse field on the source side and an ideal anechoic termination on the receiver side of the window.

From the approach used in this model, you can extract an ideal, experiment-independent STL. A variation on the random seed used to generate the diffuse field is used to obtain the sensitivity of the computed STL to changes in the diffuse field.
