Microfluidic Design of neuron-MOSFET based on ISFET

A. Jain[1], and A. Garg[2]
[1]BITS Pilani, Goa Campus, India
[2]Bhartiya Vidyapeeth College, New Delhi, India

An ISFET is an ion-sensitive field effect transistor used to measure ion concentrations in a solution; when the ion concentration changes, the current through the transistor will change accordingly. Here, the solution is used as a gate electrode. A voltage between substrate and the oxide surfaces arises due to an ions sheath. The surface hydrolization of the OH groups of the gate materials ...

Designing Silver Nanowires Invisible Cloak Based on Effective Medium Approach

Y. Xu
Soochow University, Suzhou, China

In this section, we design an invisible cloak using the composite medium of silver nanowires with elliptical cross-sections embedded in a polymethyl methacrylate host. Under the guidance of an analytical effective medium approach, we use the parameter retrieval method to design a well-performed invisible cloak, based on an empirical revised version of the reduced cloak. The cloak is numerically ...

Modeling of Limestone Calcination Using Joule Heating

R. Kancharla, and M. Ramakrishna
Padmasri Dr. B.V.Raju Institute of Technology
Narsapur
Medak Dist, AP, India

The limestone calcination reaction is endothermic and will proceed only if the partial pressure of CO2 in the gas above the solid surface is less than the decomposition pressure of the CaCO3. As the reaction is endothermic, the conventional process for calcination uses coal firing in rotary kiln with limestone feed to get the desired temperatures. Microwave heating of limestone is proposed ...

Behavioural Change on EM Exposure and its Modelling

This paper presents the ill-effects of EM exposure through experiment, simulation and modelling using COMSOL Multiphysics. Biological Effects of microwave radiations on living creatures are studied supported with the practical results.

Electric Field Density Distribution for Cochlear Implant Electrodes

N.S. Lawand[1], J. van Driel[2], P.J. French[2]
[1]Electronic Instrumentation Laboratory (EILab), Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands
[2]Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands

Cochlear Implants are implantable devices which bypasses the non-functional inner ear and directly stimulates the hearing nerve with electric currents thus enabling deaf people to experience sound again. Implant electrode array design is limited in electrode count, due to their large size in accordance to scala tympani (ST) with restrictions for deeper insertion in ST thus depriving access to ...

Modeling of Lead-acid Flow Battery

M. N. Nandanwar[1], S. K. Gupta[1]
[1]Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India

Failure of conventional lead-acid battery is attributed to degradation of solid active mass (PbO2 and PbSO4 ). A number of research efforts are underway worldwide to overcome degradation of active mass to improve the cycle life of lead-acid batteries. Soluble lead-acid flow battery (SLFB) is a new kind of lead-acid flow battery in which products of discharge remain in dissolved state. SLFB ...

Deformable Image Registration for Pleural Photodynamic Therapy

B. Liu[1], T. C. Zhu[1]
[1]Department of Radiation Oncology, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA

Deformable image registration is a form of medical image processing that can provide insights into the development of phenomenon and variation in normal anatomical structure over time. Prior to post-operative pleural photodynamic therapy (PDT), a series of CT scans of lungs will be acquired. During PDT treatment, an infrared navigation system is used to contour the lungs and provide real-time ...

Resonant Frequency Analysis of Quartz Shear Oscillator

T. Satyanarayana[1], V. Sai Pavan Rajesh[2]
[1]NPMASS Centre, Lakireddy Bali Reddy Autonomous Engineering College, Mylavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India
[2]Lakireddy Bali Reddy Autonomous Engineering College, Mylavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India

The most commonly used type of resonator is the AT-cut, where the quartz blank is in the form of a thin plate cut at an angle to the optic axis of the crystal. This paper reports the modeling of a quartz oscillator for a resonant frequency analysis based on piezoelectric effects. The proposed oscillator consists of a single quartz disc with two electrodes on the top and bottom surfaces of the ...

Annealing Furnaces Modelisation for Photovoltaïc Applications

J. Givernaud[1]
[1]EMIX, St Maurice La Souterraine, France

The optimisation of dimensions, materials choice of heaters in annealing furnaces are done with COMSOL Multiphysics® in 2D-axisymetry. Heat losses sources are identified and corrective actions can be taken in function of simulation results. A power saving of more than 50% is achieved thanks to simulations.

Water Quality Model for Brewster Lake

Z. Aljobeh[1], G. Argueta[1]
[1]Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN, USA

A numerical model was developed to make spatial and temporal predictions of the water quality for Brewster Lake, located in southwestern Michigan. The model considers the hydrodynamics of the lake, hydrologic conditions, physical, chemical and biochemical processes that take place in the lake, and nutrient loadings from the surrounding watershed. Physical, chemical, and biochemical data ...
